Introduction

While other tools are built to identify consumer trends, Signals is built to help glean actionable insights from Sprout Social Influencer Marketing's Creator community.

Using Sprout Social Influencer Marketing's inventory of over 9 billion pieces of content from over 7 million Creators and 400k brands, Signals allows users to query data using any keyword, hashtag, phrase, or Profile Mention that maps to any use case.

The Signals Engine is data-focused and designed for BI. Reports are a composition of various components, all visualizing key insights drawn from the query's posts, such as:

  • Where the location of Creators that are included in the query

  • Which Categories are posting most in the query

  • What content types are performing the best

  • Identify the most popular and trending hashtags

  • and much, much more!

How Does Signals Work?

Sprout Social Influencer Marketing's Signals Engine requires at least one "Signal" or query to create a Report. There are four types of Signals Reports:

  • Topic - Create a Report based on Posts that include your selected Keywords, Phrases, or Hashtags. This report type is best for understanding Creator trends around tentpole moments or topics, such as NYFW or #artbasel.

  • Mentions - Create a Report based on Posts that mention a specific Profile or Profiles. Use a mentions report to determine who mentions your competitors and how often.

  • Profiles - Create a Report based on Posts created by a specific Profile or Profiles. Use this report to understand how competing brands speak about trending cultural events and more!

  • Custom - Mix and match parameters and pre-filter the results to build a query that maps to more complex use cases. This report type is best when a particular search requires boolean logic.

Within seconds of creating your search, Signals populates a full Report with six different tabs and over 20 Components!

For example, in the Overview Tab:

  • The Performance Over Time Graph is created by aggregating all posts that fit the report criteria, organizing those posts by creation date, then displaying the summed values of Engagement, Likes, etc. for each time period.

  • The Engagement Rate Graph is created by aggregating all posts that fit the report criteria, organizing them by platform and content type, then displaying the average engagement rate values for each combination of platform and content type.
